105 is providing everyone with an informational packet of our

happens on each trip plus information about all the amazing give a

and start planning your 2008 fishing adventure. Trip runs from

Big Hammer/Fisherman’s Hardware Skiff and Kayak
Trip - The Santa Barbra Boys
The Big Hammer Skiff/Kayak is a combination trip with both Kayaks
and Skiffs. If you are a ‘fisherman’, you have to experience a skiff
trip at least once in your long-range career. If you are like most
long-range anglers, having experienced this fishing once, you will
just have to return from time to time. Skiff trips are an incredible
experience where you truly will have a chance to catch your personal
best of Yellowtail, Halibut, White Sea Bass and Calico Bass. Even
when you are not out in a kayak or a skiff you will be on the Q-105
in search of other areas and more fish!
Fish Trap Lures Skiff Trip - Barry
Brightenburg is sponsoring the ever-popular fish trap lures skiff
trip. This trip is a limited angler load, maxing out at 18 paid
anglers. These trips target Calico Bass, Yellowtail, and other sport
fish in unspoiled areas off the Baja coast. Skiff trips provide
anglers the opportunity to fish in areas that the big boat cannot
access. Barry conducts nightly raffles and brings supplies of top
quality products including but not limited to: Shimano, P-line
fishing line, Fish Trap Lures, Fish Work Clothing and many more.
Barry has been acknowledged as being very generous with his supply
of Fish trap lures because anglers fly thought them quickly, and it
is hard to find a more productive lure while fishing the kelp and
boiler rocks. For any fisherman these trips are extraordinary, for
the Calico Bass enthusiast this is the trip you will not want to
miss.
Mike Shrier Open - Mike Shirer is
sponsoring the first summer trip of the season. This is an 8-day
trip that runs in June. Historically Alijos Rocks has produced
Yellowfin Tuna and Yellowtail with fish up to 100 pounds. This trip
also targets early season Bluefin, Albacore offshore, and Yellowtail
at costal islands. The length of this trip allows for the
opportunity to catch a wide variety of game fish.
19th Annual Cowboys TRU (Tuna Round Up) (fna AHI
Invitational) - Gary (The Cowboy)
Vanderlyke has decided to host a 5-day summer trip in 2008 in order
to give everyone a chance to fish the islands of Benitos, Cedros and
Guadalupe. The trip will run June 29th thru July 4th. So, make sure
to show your patriotism by joining the Qualifier 105 this holiday
week. The Cowboy's/AHI trip has been running for 19 years and was
originally founded by, Gary Vanderlyke, Pete Gray (Lets Talk Hookup
Fame) and Dallas Lamb as a three-day trip. After three successful
years of finding a**holes and convincing them to take a fishing
trip, Gary and Dallas decided to take over the Invitational. There
have been many memorable trips aboard the Qualifier 105, including
the infamous Bluefin trip, and Gary “The Cowboy” is quoted as saying
he loves the boat more than his own home. Gary has amazing patience
and is always willing to answer any angler’s questions.
Brawley Boy/Boss Hoag - The Brawley
Boys and Boss Hoag are combining trips for 2008. This is a great
family (Kids included) 5 day trip will runs July 4th - July 9th. It
is a great opportunity to meet different groups of anglers, the
majority of whom have been fishing the Qualifier 105 for multiple
years. Dave Hoag and Chuck Constable (the charter masters) have
combined 40 plus years of fishing with the boat. Dave has been
aboard the boat for so many years that he is considered a second
father many of the crewmembers and captains (even though no one is
sure how good his advice is!). Dave and Chuck have been dear friends
with John Klein for many years. Doc Smith does a guest appearance
once in a while to complete the group and the kids have a blast
learning to fish and seeing how the big boys do it. Boss Hoag also
is offering a ten-day trip in the fall. Check the schedule for
dates.
Berkley Line Open - The Berkley Line
Open trip has been running for 4 consecutive years. Even before
sponsoring fishing trips, the company and Qualifier 105 have
maintained a long-standing relationship for over 15 years. Located
out of Spirit Lake Iowa, Berkley prides itself on performance
advances in fishing lines, soft baits, hard baits, fishing rods, and
terminal tackle. There will be give a ways of Berkley Line, an
industry leader, along with Berkley schwag like tee shirts and hats.
EAL 7-strand lures will also be raffled, which contain microwave and
millimeter wave electronics fitted into the trolling lures. More
information can be found on Berkley’s website at
www.berkley-fishing.com.
Coastside - Coastside is a relatively
new trip compared to many of our other sponsored trips, only
starting about five years ago. However, it is wildly popular and
tends to fill extremely fast. Bob Franko the founder of Coastside
has been fishing with the Qualifier 105 since its first year at sea
and decided along with charter master Chris Hall to create a 5-day
summer and a 10-day fall trip aboard the boat. The trip is sponsored
by Hi’s Tackle and WFO sport fishing, which kindly donates tackle
boxes, terminal gear, and rods and reels for raffles and give a
ways. Prizes are also awarded daily for the biggest fish. Chris
estimates that this year he will probably bring $2000-$3000 worth of
prizes. Coastside has more than 20,000 active members; so if this
sounds like the trip for you, make your reservation now. Coastside
will also be running a fall trip. Check our schedule for dates as
these trips fill fast.
Lets Talk Hookup - Shimano will be
sponsoring the 13th annual Let’s Talk Hookup on the water seminar.
Lets Talk Hookup is the #1 live radio broadcast sports show in
Southern California. This specially priced 3-day trip is perfect for
the avid fisherman looking to get away for the weekend or for the
beginner who would like to learn new techniques. An expert
instructor will be aboard the trip giving a seminar on tips and
techniques to improve fishing skills. This seminar is provided on
the ride down as not to interfere with fishing time. After the
seminar, the instructor will be available for as much or as little
help as you need. Shimano will also provide tackle for every anglers
use and one lucky angler will win a Shimano rod and reel.
Pacific Coast Fishing/Delbridge Open -
Pacific Coast Fishing Magazine will sponsor this trip. This is prime
summer time fishing where we expect Albacore, Bluefin tuna, and
Yellowtail. There may even be a shot at the big Guadalupe Yellowfin
tuna and Yellowtail along with offshore exotics like Dorado.
Barnett Family - The Barnett family is
hosting its "15th" annual charter/Open in 2008. They are a
great part of the Qualifier 105 family and they always host killer
super bowl parties!
Glenn’s Tackle Open - Glenn’s Tackle
will be sponsoring its 7th trip in a row running from August
18th-August 23rd. Bobby Gowin, the chartermaster and owner of Glenn’s
Tackle, says his mantra is to “fish hard while having fun with a
great group of guys”. The boys like to fish hard all day and play
lively games of poker in the evening. Glenn’s Tackle only books
their charters on the Qualifier 105 because they believe the boat
has the finest fishing platform in the entire San Diego fleet. This
trip is chalked full of exciting door prizes. Everyone will win
terminal tackle and one person will be the lucky winner of a
specialty wrapped rod provided by Glenn’s Tackle. Also, anglers who
have provided a 50% deposit for the Glenn’s Tackle trip will receive
20% off all terminal tackle!!
Glenn's Tackle Shop is located at 1145 Baker Street #A Costa Mesa,
Ca 92626 phone 714-957-1408. Website: www.glennstackle.com Bobby
Gowin aims to create a teamwork atmosphere that ensures the most
pleasurable angling experience possible. Big fish and filled limits
are the ultimate goal, as well as having a blast while getting
there!
976 TUNA Limited Load - 976TUNA.COM
sponsors one of the most popular trips of the year. T-Shirts and
jigs are given to all anglers, and long time charter master Larry
Brown will be on hand to record the action with over 200 photos. The
photos will be given to each angler on a CD at the end of the trip
and they will appear with a complete article on the 976TUNA web site
so you can share them family and friends. These trips are known for
finding Albacore, Bluefin tuna and yellowtail. There is always a
possibility Yellowfin tuna and Dorado offshore, depending on water
temperature and conditions. This trip frequently catches all 5
species with multiple grand slams. Most importantly, this is the
prime time for Guadalupe Island to break wide open with bigger grade
Yellowfin tuna and home guard Yellowtail. Charter Master, Larry
Brown, acts as "host with the most,” helping in all aspects of the
trip, from knots to techniques in addition to his amazing
photography. A great trip for families and buddies or just join the
fun. This is an ultra limited load trip of only 26 passengers so
there is tons of room on a boat already known for its huge fishing
deck space. Larry's email is lmbrownxx@earthlink.net if you have any
questions for him.
Phoenix Fishing Open - Gowdy Toy
established the Phoenix Fishing group is 1994. He was originally
interested in organizing a group of guys from Arizona for short run
two-day trips. After a few fun filled successful years, the boys
decided to take on a longer 5 day in trip in fall and the rest is
history. For over 10 years, this group of “zonies” have been
traveling each fall to join the Qualifier 105 in search of
Yellowfin, Yellowtail, and the exotics. On a side note, anyone that
joins from the surrounding area of Phoenix will most likely be able
to join a carpool. Anthony Ybanez, Phoenix fishing’s representative,
likes to make the trip fun and exciting every single year. There are
always give a ways that includes high quality rod and reel
combinations along with tee shirts and a grab bag of interesting
goodies. Anthony stresses fun on these trips and has been known to
bring water balloons to throw at the captain and crew. He typically
brings a usual assortment of give a ways for the best and worst
fisherman.
Berkley Open - 15 to 16 years ago
William Bryant a.k.a Berkley began fishing on the Qualifier 105. He
has always liked the boat because of its low riding platform and
when other boats are “rocking and rolling”, the Qualifier is not.
Mr. Bryant fished for a few years and then proposed sponsoring a
trip. John Klein thought that was an excellent idea and showed Mr.
Bryant the ropes. There was so much fun and fishing on this trip
that John and Mr. Bryant teamed up to shoot a video showing everyone
catching cows some of which were over 300 lbs. The tape was widely
successfully and sold over 5,000 copies at the Fred Hall show.
During the taping Mr. Bryant met a Mr. Vandenberg who was on the
trip as a passenger. They immediately became great friends and eight
years ago, Mr. Vandenberg became a sponsor thus creating the
Berkley/Vandenberg open party trip. There are many daily give a ways
and when you come aboard, you can be guaranteed to leave with 2-3
items. Give a ways include a Seeker pole, tee shirts, hats, Calstar
rod worth $300-$500 and loads of goodies donated by Purfield’s
tackle. All in all, Barkley/Vandenberg will give away roughly $3000
worth of merchandise. This is one of the most popular trips of the
season so it is recommended to make reservations early.
Bakers Reels/Performance Tackle - John
Baker owner of Baker’s Reels will be teaming up with Curtis Owens
representative from performance tackle in order to host the first
December trip of the year. 2008 will be John’s third year as a
sponsor for the Qualifier 105. Don’t let this newbie fool you, he
has been “unofficially” working with the boat for years, essentially
donating give a ways for other party trips like the
Berkley/Vandenberg trip. Two years ago, Harvey Siegel (a staple of
the Qualifier 105) suggested that John form his own trip. John
estimates this year that he will be bringing a minimum of $2000
worth of merchandise for give a ways and raffles. Since he is a reel
manufacturer, there will be special reel and frame give a ways along
with the usual tee shirts and terminal tackle raffles. Performance
Tackle located in Los Alamos California previously sponsored 7-day
trips for 9 years. After a brief hiatus, they are itching to get
back on the Qualifier 105 for some fishing fun. Performance Tackle
will be working with their vendors in order to bring many goodies
and give away. This will be a perfect trip to get away during the
holiday season, do not get stuck eating cold turkey and watching
football game highlight reruns! This will be a trip that will not be
forgotten for many years to come.
